Gómez Cruzado

2016 Montes Obarenes

Gómez Cruzado explores the diversity that Rioja can offer through their collection of village wines called Terrior Selection, which is a limited edition born from the winemakers desire to convey the expression of very specific plots of land, and the truly unique characteristics that distinguish these plots from the rest, even in a designation of origin as richly nuanced and diverse as Rioja.

BLEND | 75% Viura and 25% Tempranillo Blanco

VINEYARDS | Montes Obarenes is a modern take on Rioja’s great whites. The wine is named for the hills in the northwest of Rioja Alta, where the Ebro River enters into Rioja, bringing clouds and colder temperatures with it. Located at the foot of the Montes Obarenes close to Haro, this area is exceptional for growing white varietals, with fresh and rich soil.

WINEMAKING | 80% of the wine is fermented and aged on fine lees in new French oak barrel and 20% is aged on fine lees in an ovoid concrete tank. Long refinement in bottle to achieve a white wine with freshness and typicity and excellent ageing capacity.

PRESS | 95 WA “The white 2016 Montes Obarenes has to be one of the finest modern classical whites from Rioja. With a Burgundian twist and the finest vintage for this blend, it’s a reinterpretation of the whites that were traditionally produced in Haro. It has balsamic notes and a chalky sensation in the palate that reveals precision and freshness. There are notes of chamomile and dry flowers, fine wood and smoke. It has great balance, purity and length with a dry finish. It’s austere and serious, with great elegance. This should age magnificently in bottle.” - Luis Gutierrez
